Helen Hoffman

Helen Hoffman Age 94, of Hamilton, Ohio passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017. She was born on May 23, 1923 in Warren, Ohio to Frank and Katie Yukola. Her parents immigrated from Finland and Helen did not learn to speak English until she attended school, at which point she helped her parents with English. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School and took courses from the Berklee School of Music. She led an illustrious life. She was the first woman to fly solo out of the Hamilton airport and she served in the Civil Air Patrol in World War II reaching the rank of Sargent. She was an accomplished musician and music teacher playing the accordion, piano and guitar. She was the longtime owner of Hoffman Music Studio in Fairfield and attracted her teachers from the College Conservatory of Music at UC. She served as an officer in the American Business Women’s Association and in retirement organized and led a rhythm band for the Butler County MRDD. An avid golfer, Helen served as the president of the senior ladies golf league at Potter’s Park golf course in Hamilton. She spent her later years at Westover Retirement Center in Hamilton and as always, an organizer; she started the Westover Idol talent show. She was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hamilton. She is survived by her sons, Dave, San Antonio, Texas and Marc (Paula), Villa Hills, Kentucky; grandson Brian (Bennett) and great grandchildren, Audrey and Zoe, Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughter, Lindsay (Mike) Huge and great granddaughter, June, Landenberg, Pennsylvania. She touched so many lives through her music and family and was known for her great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed but can rest peacefully knowing she lived a full and vibrant life. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Pastor Randy Stearns officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the services.
