Lou Armstead

Louis Ralston Armstead, born December 22, 1952 to Mary (Ralston) Armstead and Paul Armstead who preceded him in death along with his brother Paul (Chip) Armstead. Lou joined them in eternal life May 19, 2016, 17 days after a cancer diagnosis. Lou attended Hamilton City Schools before heading to Mercersburg Academy for high school. He graduated from Jacksonville University with a degree in Fine Art. Lou owned and operated a Re/Max franchise until his retirement in 2001. Retirement brought many volunteer opportunities. One of his highest and most proud achievements was helping to found and build Neighborhood Housing Services of Hamilton with his family. Lou served as Chairman of that board until 2015. He also served as chairman of the Board for Somerville National Bank for 10 years. Other things he loved were Mentoring at risk children in an after school program at Trinity Episcopal Church, serving on the board of The Fitton Center for the Arts, helping with the students at the Options Academy for the Arts, and importantly helping his wife Sherry with her business at Art On/Off Symmes just to name a few. Lou shared 32 amazing years with his wife Sherry raising a talented son, Preston, and loving as his own, Debbie (Tony) Weisbrod, Steve Meyer (Tina) Michele Brown (Curt) and Suzanne Baker (Scott) and a number of grandchildren. He also leaves his sister in law Hope (Chip) Armstead and her children, Racheal, Ryan and Paul. Plus, a host of wonderful and caring cousins. Many years ago, Lou adopted another family that he loved and cared for deeply, and those were the many whose lives he touched at the Central YMCA. He was a daily visitor who brought a smile to everyone’s face and always took the time to get to know the staff and members. He had a true passion and talent for teaching the cycling classes and always came home excited that he was known as “Poster Child” and “The Maestro”. They completed his happy life. Memorial services will be held on May 28, 2016 at 3PM at Trinity Episcopal Church 115 N 6th St, Oh 45011. A Celebration of Lou’s life will immediately follow at the Central Branch of the YMCA located at 105 N Second St Hamilton, Oh 45011.
