Mary Ann Parker

Mary Ann Whitt Parker was born on October 9, 1943 in Harlan County, Lynch, Kentucky to George Washington Whitt and Ella Mae Ledford. She was the second oldest of eight girls. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Betty Marie McGee, Frances Elaine Mason, Wilma Rose Lewis, Georgia Ann Whitt and Vandella Whitt, Clarence Parker Sr. (husband). Mary lived a full and active life until her health prevented her from doing all the things that she enjoyed. She enjoyed fishing and went as often as she could. Mary, enjoyed playing checkers and was awarded the title of United Spanish Pool Checker Women’s Division Champion. Mary attended and graduated Lynch High school in Kentucky in 1963. Soon after graduation she moved to New York where she met and married Clarence Parker. From this union, three children were born. two boys and a girl. They were married for thirty years. Mother Parker as she was affectionately called by many, joined Carolina Baptist Church in 1978. She served faithfully as an usher for twenty years. Mary's career was Dietician and Executive Chef in New York City. She opened and operated her own soul food catering business that included a neighborhood barbecue restaurant. She retired in 1997. Mary moved to Ohio in 1998, where she met her fishing buddy and companion Tim Land. She joined Faith United Church in 1999. Mary loved the Lord and she attended church whenever she could. Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her children Clarence Parker Jr., (Sherry), Cornelius Parker, Vanessa Ann Parker-Gentilhomme (Pierre-Jeannot) – New York City, companion of 20 years, Tim Land, Hamilton, Ohio, Sisters, Brenda J. Shields (Thaddius) - Middletown, Ohio, Linda J. Harding (Martin) - Hamilton, Ohio, fifteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, ten nieces, three nephews, and many New York City neighborhood children (grownups now) who called her Mother Parker and a host of family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at Faith United Church, 9 Baltimore St., Middletown, Ohio at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 13, 2020 with Rev. Michael A. Bailey, Senior Pastor officiating and Rev. Romie Stephens as eulogist. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 A.M. Thursday until the time of the services. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery.
