Robert N. Wilson

Robert N. Wilson, a native of Hamilton, Ohio and long time resident of Florida passed away peacefully at his home in Vero Beach, Florida on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the age of 81. Robert was the son of the late Howard and Alice Wilson, Howard being a long-time business leader and public servant of The City of Hamilton. Robert was preceded in death by his dear wife Gail (Weigel) Wilson also of Hamilton, Ohio, his brothers Ralph Wilson, Sturgis, MI and Ray Wilson, Brainerd, MN. Robert leaves behind his son Steven Wilson and Steve’s girlfriend Lisa Laquidari both of (Miami) Aventura, Florida, and his granddaughter Kristen Wilson of Charlotte, NC. Robert began his career at Champion International, and later transitioned to the construction industry serving for decades as an operating engineer for Follmer Construction, New Miami and S&K Construction, Middletown, from where he retired in 1999. After retirement, Robert and Gail relocated to Vero Beach, Florida, where after some 29 years of courtship, they were married in 2001. Robert and Gail traveled the world east from Windjammer Cruises in the Caribbean, west to their Oceanside timeshare in Maui, Hawaii and many beautiful locations in between. Thanks to the adventurous enthusiasm of his wife, Gail, Robert was introduced to places in the world he would have never known without the love and encouragement of Gail. Most of their global travels also included their close friends Dean and Sue Welsh of Hamilton. Robert was a lifetime member of The Hamilton Boat Club where he spent many summer weekends running wide open up and down the Great Miami River, and often topped off the day with a 360 spin of his Century boat just to show off his driving talents. A longtime member of the Monkey Mutual Aid Society of Hamilton, Robert enjoyed stopping by to sign in and have a cold beer, or two, at the bar with his fellow members. Robert was also a long-time union member of the Ohio Operating Engineers, Local #18 where he received his 50 Year Membership Award in 2017. Robert was always known for his great smile, along with his kind and energetic approach to life. Always offering a yes, yes ma’am, yes sir and thank you, Robert spread his love and happiness to his friends and family. While Hamilton held his heritage, Robert was proud to be a Floridian and took great pride that his son Steve joined him and Gail as a Florida resident in 2006. Robert will be dearly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched. He lived, loved and left a legacy of a true Hamiltonian, a legacy of a kind and gentle man making the world a better place one day and one thank you at a time! Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Rev. Edwin Beck officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
