Bernice M. Engel

ENGEL, Bernice M. Age 81, of Hamilton, died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 7:19 p.m. at Ft. Hamilton Hospital. She was born February 25, 1924 in Dauphin County, Pa., the daughter of Charles F. Schory and Hannah B. (Shive) Schory. She graduated from Lower Paxton High School in Harrisburg, Pa.. She served in the US Navy from March 14, 1944 to March 26, 1945, serving at the Fleet Post Office in New York City. She married Robert L. Engel on December 18, 1944 in Phenix City, Alabama. She was employed as a clerk at the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years retiring in 1987. Bernice was the first full time woman employed by the Post Office in Hamilton. She attended Zion Lutheran Church. She was the first female member of American Legion Post 138, a member of the Knitting Club meeting at Grace United Methodist Church and a member of the Fort Hamilton Gem and Mineral Society. She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Patricia Rouse of Fairfield, Marilyn Meyers and husband Gary, Aileen Engel and husband Michael Zwissler both of Hamilton, Janice McBride and husband Russell of Grants Pass, Oregon; one brother, Charles F. Schory Jr. and his wife Doris of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Lowdermilk and her husband Nevin of Enola, Pa. and Fern Clay of Harrisburg, Pa.; twelve grandchildren, Aimee Evans and her husband Kevin, Allan Rouse and wife Gina, Andrea Rouse, Angela Dehner and husband John, John G. Meyers and wife Michelle, Layne Minges and husband Glen, Kevin Niemann and wife Molly, Aaron Niemann, David Zwissler and wife Jennifer, Michelle Knittle and husband Mike, Nicole Zwissler and Christopher Zwissler; seventeen Great Grandchildren, Allie and Luke Evans, Alex and Karly Rouse, John Dehner, Zachary and Branden Minges, Ryan Meyers, Tyler, Trevor and Devon Niemann, Corinne, Katie and Eric Knittle, Chelsie Weyrich, Abigail and Elizabeth Zwissler, many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Glenn A. Rouse, Sr., a brother John R. Schory, three sisters, Ruth Eslinger, Esther Troy and Norma Hoon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Rev. Timothy Landers officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 212 S. Front Street, Hamilton, OH 45011 or a charity of ones choice.
