THOME, GEORGE W. Age 90, Darrtown, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at his residence. He was born on August 29, 1926 the son of Edward W. and Dora (McVicker) Thome. He was a graduate of Hanover High School and a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving aboard the USS Shamrock in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 to 1946. He married Faye Bufler on September 15, 1950 in Oxford. George had been employed at Cincinnati Bell for 40 years, where he retired as an equipment engineer. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, VFW Post #1069 Fairfield, Knights of Pythias Lodge #578, American Legion and the Darrtown Stock Protection Company. He was inducted in the Ohio Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 1998. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, woodworking and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Faye; two daughters, Lisa (Dan) Niehaus, West Chester and Linda (Mark) Habel, Hamilton; a son, Alan (Tammy) Thome, Hanover Township; seven grandchildren, Julie Rose, Elizabeth Snyder, Eric Niehaus, Amy Young, Joshua Thome, Austin Thome and Samantha Thome and five great grandchildren, Jackson Snyder, Caleb Rose, Connor Rose and Matthew and Allison Niehaus. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Mildred Probst and Ruth Alford. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 4411 Hamilton Richmond Road, Darrtown with Pastor Robert Browning officiating. Burial will be in Darrtown Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W.
