Gary L. Sheard

Gary L. Sheard, age 65, of Hamilton, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at 2 a.m. at Hospice of Hamilton. He was born in Hamilton on November 16, 1943 the son of George D. “Bucky” and Dorothy J. (Messinger) Sheard. He was a 1961 graduate of Taft High School and served in the U. S. Navy in the Philippines and Vietnam from July 28, 1964 to July 26, 1968. He married Judy Lingler on May 25, 1968 in San Diego, California. Gary was employed as an electronic technician and draftsman for DBS Stainless Steel Fabricators in Hamilton for twenty-two years. He had an incredible work ethic and will be sadly missed by his co-workers and friends at DBS. Gary loved spending time with friends, golfing, fishing, and just hanging out telling stories. The greatest joys in his life were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Gary touched deeply the lives of all who knew him and met him with his sense of humor, loyalty and kindness. He will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Judy; a son, Mickey Sheard and wife, Mendy of Columbus, Indiana; a daughter Kim Fritsch and husband, Brian of Hamilton; a brother, David Sheard of Hamilton; two sisters, Carolyn Tuley of Fairfield Township and Judy Thomas and husband, Boyd of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Lora Sheard, Faith Sheard, Hannah Fritsch and Emma Fritsch and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Rev. Timothy Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park with Military Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, April 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their heartfelt love and gratitude to Mike and Debbie Mays and the entire Mays family for their constant love and support; to Jim Roberts, very special friend of Gary’s, for his constant care, concern and friendship; to Bill West for providing personal barber services to Gary over the last six months; to special friends, Tom Irwin and Skip Blaylock for their daily visits to Gary during his final weeks and to Bob and Nancy Ramsey for being such wonderful neighbors. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Lifespan, Inc. for all their support during Gary’s illness. The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Hospice of Hamilton for their wonderful care. They truly made a difference in Gary’s final days.
