Kay Frances Spaeth

Kay Spaeth, 89, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. She was born on September 3, 1936, to Bob and Vivian Kirschbaum (Updike) in Batesville Hospital and was raised in Brookville, Indiana. She graduated high school from Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg and received her BS in Education from Miami University in 1975. She married Louis Spaeth on April 16, 1955, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brookville and subsequently moved to Hamilton, where she raised her family and taught in Hamilton City Schools. She loved her 20-year career teaching first grade at Lincoln Elementary School. She and her husband made many memories traveling extensively. Her family shared countless special times together at Brookville Lake and Lake Cumberland. After retiring, she enjoyed spending winters in Redington Shores, Florida and returning home to Ohio in the summers. She was a member of the Amicitia Club and maintained many lifelong friendships, especially with her dear childhood friend, Connie Ortman of Brookville. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 71 years and three children: Vicky (Mike) Gutzwiller, Keith (Caroline) Spaeth, and Ken (Anna) Spaeth. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Joey Clough, Kristina Clough, Andy (Jessica) Spaeth, Abby (Eric) Schlueter, Ben (Bethany) Spaeth, Brian Spaeth, Lauren Spaeth, David Spaeth and Fennel Spaeth; and eight great-grandchildren, Will, Josie, Jack, Katie, Lucy, Eddie, Ava and Amelia, who brought her so much joy. Kay will be remembered for her devotion to family, her love of teaching, and the many friendships she treasured throughout her life. A special thank you to the skilled nursing division at Westover Retirement Community for making her short stay as comfortable as possible, to Westover Preschool for bringing her twin great-granddaughters’ class to visit and sing, and to Hospice of Cincinnati for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held at Queen of Peace Church, 2550 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45013 on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 10:00AM -11:00AM with Funeral Mass immediately following the visitation.
